So the “snap” election is tomorrow, designed to give Teresa May the majority she expected, but what a lot has happened in this past six weeks. I am shocked by the papers, who seem to be even more divided than ever. All we have seen from virtually all of the tabloid papers is a shit load of right wing bollocks over the last few days. 80% ish right wing media is not a good place to be. Despicable in fact. Screaming headlines today about the “troika of befriending Britain’s enemies” as regards the Labour party. I seriously hope that the electorate is cleverer than the media make us out to be. Diane Abbott has “been removed” from office due to illness today and so even the Evening Standard talked about the “Corbyn Chaos” tonight.
What are we to make of it all?
This is truly the most depressing election we have had in a long time, with no stand out leader to vote for. Tactical voting techniques and propaganda abound and I just hope that the young get out and vote in droves. Of course, it’s totally understandable that the last few weeks have been about security, given the terrorist attacks Manchester and London have had to endure, but from the outset there appears to be a conspiracy of silence between all the parties as to how they are going to move forward with negotiations with Europe regarding Brexit and that is frankly terrifying/pathetic. Treating us all like idiots and avoiding the key focus of this election isn’t going to help anyone.
Such a shame that there hasn’t been time for an “En Marche” style new party to emerge, because there certainly is a space for one. We could seriously have done with some new blood. We are not a left wing country, but one that is desperate to embrace a new and unified party that is fair and logical. There is just no joy in this whatsoever and whilst I keep hearing that we are a bunch of election-weary voters, I don’t think that is the case, I think the fact of the matter is that there is just no obvious choice.
So my prediction for the outcome tomorrow? Theresa May won’t get the majority she was expecting. I don’t think Labour will get in, but I think that she will get the bloody nose that some people are predicting and there could even be a hung parliament. Then where will that leave us as regards the horrendous amount of work to do around leaving the EU? In a mess. Basically. The Lib Dems have barely featured, certainly Tim Farron was not the person to lead the party – even this morning on the radio, they were quoting “former leader Nick Clegg” rather than him…..
I despair. Honestly, I really do.

June 8, 2017Spot on, as ever. I could not agree more with you. The whole affair is just a hideous mess. Imagine, we are going to have that ghastly second rate ‘geography teacher’ (with apologies to geography teachers) spouting at us for the next five years….I can think of nothing worse! We just have to pray for a reduced majority which will take her down a peg or two. Defo time to move to mainland Europe methinks; A little house in the Andalusia is very appealing.
