It has recently come to my attention that as a newly divorced female, Saturday nights tend to be the worst night of the week for making plans. Possibly because on a weekend when you don’t have the children, you want to do something fun or different. Most of my friends are doing family and/or things as a couple. I actually don’t think it is as bad for a newly divorced and/or seperated male – I think that the men tend to get far more looked after by other females.

Here were my options for Saturday night:-

1. Stay in and watch TV on my own (not an option – suicidally dull)

2. Arrange night out with other single girlfriends and go to dodgy bar (have done this one far too many times at the beginning of my trauma to know that you tend to end up talking to other sad singletons who clearly don’t have any proper friends and are just looking for a shag)

3. Arrange night out with other married friends who want to be single (even worse than point 2).

4. Go out with married friends to dinner party (not good if not feeling strong and can make you feel really lonely and crap if no other single people there).

5. Go out on a date with a gorgeous new normal man with sense of humour, hair and nice shoes (couldn’t find one).

6. Go to divorced girlfriend’s house for mutual counselling session

6. Go out for lovely meal with ex-builder boyfriend and laugh and talk and drink

I love the pretend email. My ex does the same with the kids. Instead of calling to see what I’m up to he leaves them at his sister’s cos he’s got to catch a flight. Not bad for a dad who sees them 1 weekend in 2.
I would write email, have glass of wine, get brave and then send it. Probably best your way!
    Cheers
