1. That my children can survive perfectly well without me for five days in the world – even if they were secretly a little bit traumatised that I went on a Disney cruise without them. Even if my mother was completely traumatised that I was “snuggling up to Minnie Mouse” – “WHERE IS MICKEY?” she asked. Good question. Very busy prancing about in his sailor suit from what I could tell.
2. That my enterprising daughter can make herself a whole fancy dress outfit including ironing on an image to a shirt without me (well almost). She went as an FBI agent to a fancy dress party last weekend, having carefully ironed on the FBI emblem to the back of her T-shirt and donned cool aviator sunglasses only to discover that in fact it said “IBF” on the back of her shirt – “well, it looked alright when I checked it in the mirror” she said.
3. That my 13 year old makes a very good carer for my friends’ special needs son. He was asked to shadow him for the day during an outdoor “wilderness” event and I got a text whilst I was at work from my friend saying “I’ve had a call from the organisers saying how fabulous he is and that they want to book him as a leader the minute he’s old enough. BINGO. Thank you so very much”.
4. That I am becoming quite the cruise aficionado and was even a tiny bit interested when the Disney expert of the century told me that there were 5390 pillows onboard.
5. That there is a new Arcade Fire album out very soon. Woohoo. Also I heard an Anthony & The Johnson’s very cool, funky song being played when I was in Miami – anyone know where it comes from? OR when they are coming back to the UK as I missed their Royal Opera House performances earlier this year?
6. That 40% of teenagers say they have created sexual images or videos on their phone and 25% say they have sent them via text messages. Of these, 15% have sent such pictures to a stranger. I wonder what the percentage is of “adults” who send lewd pictures on their phone. Seriously are they mad? If their phone gets lost or stolen or somebody else’s phone gets lost or stolen or the recipient decides to share the image with friends – what then?
