My children loved the pantomime we saw at Richmond Theatre. I felt a little bad that I hadn’t up until now made it an annual event given how much my youngest child got into the spirit of the event, singing and booing and shouting when required. He was desperate to go up on stage with the other children, but was a year too old.
I was amazed to see so many adults without children all loving every minute….laughing at all the unbelievably bad jokes Tim Vine as Muddles made and doing the whole “he’s behind you” thing with great gusto.
I on the otherhand, in keeping with the theme running through my life at the moment focused on the Wicked Stepmother who’s husband had died in mysterious circumstances. Jane Asher was brilliant – far too beautiful to be playing the evil woman and she managed to add an amusing smattering of lines about her cakes and her singing:-

Sapphire Elia played a very sweet Snow White. My daughter thought David Gale was the most handsome prince she had ever seen – she was right, he was gorgeous.

The seven dwarfs added lots of extra fun as did Jonathon Shotton, Britain’s Magic Champion as Mephisto who performed some really brilliant magic.
Slightly too much promotion for “Robinsons” who were the official sponsors, who even managed to put a bottle of squash onto one of the hats Stephen David who played The Dame was wearing – but apart from that we weren’t disappointed.
Good old fashioned Christmas family entertainment….now I’m going to have to go next year as well.

December 9, 2009A great night!
I haven’t been to a pantomime for years but the girls go most years with their father and love every minute. As a devotee of “Shrek”, “Ice Age” and other such insanity, I must make the effort to find a panto. After all I am a typical 50+ world weary, serious minded male who should know better. You know,
A BIG KID!!!
