What a lovely Mother’s Day I had yesterday. I spent it with two out of three of my children, which wasn’t bad. Loved the cards I got:-

This one from my teenage son:-

My youngest son did me a hand-written card (on account of the fact he has no money) which was sweet – lovely sentiments and at the end he said “PS, sorry for being a little shit sometimes”.

My day went a bit like this:

  1. Woke up at 5am when firstborn staggered in from a party
  2. Decided to fully get up at 7.30pm when I had clearly established that I was going to get bed sores before I got breakfast in bed on account of one child at a sleepover, one still at uni and the other passed out in bed
  3. Headed off to watch my youngest play football.  Bloody freezing and he only played for 10 minutes
  4. Went to the supermarket with my bleary firstborn son and chose all the ingredients for my Mother’s Day lunch, which luckily, as it was Mother’s Day, I got to pay for.
  5. Went home to spread mess out all over my kitchen, mainly goose fat which doesn’t come off anything and luckily as it was Mother’s Day I got to unpack the bags and do all the washing up, plus peel the carrots, because he couldn’t believe how boring and time consuming peeling potatoes was and couldn’t possibly peel for a moment longer. I think he may also have developed a blister.

So apart from the house nearly burning down and all my clothes now smelling of goose fat, the roast-cooked-by-my-son went extremely well. Worryingly he claimed he had never cooked a roast before. Never cooked a roast?? He’s 22 now!!   What on earth did I teach him when he was growing up? How could I miss out on one of the KEY life lessons – how to tie your shoelaces, how to ride a bike, how to clean your teeth, how to shake hands, how to dance (sneaking that in to pretend I taught them everything they know about dance floor moves), and surely how to cook a roast was in there somewhere? Essential.

My brother and sister in law came around with their simply divine teeny children and we all had a lovely messy lunch together.

My daughter was supremely missed, but there we go, you can’t have everything and I wasn’t with my mother who is too far away but moving much nearer us all very soon.

But look what she bought me! I’ve never seen personalised Cadbury’s chocolate before – VERY EXCITED to find myself on the cover of a huge bar of Dairy Milk:-
