There was a front page article in the paper yesterday all about a study of British middle aged couples that had found that 14% of wives spy on their husband’s emails, 13% read their mobile phone text messages and 10% check web browser logs.
WELL OF COURSE THEY DO.
There is nothing more devious than a suspicious wife who is determined to find out the truth. I have friends who check their husbands emails regularly. I assume that the men are not aware that their wives even know their passwords. I even know one person who has been divorced for years who still keeps a close eye on his correspondence. Builder Bloke’s ex was still printing off his emails years after they had separated. We can get away with it because everybody assumes we are incapable of coping with modern technology.
When I became suspicious about my husband’s textual behaviour I became obsessed with checking his phone. You so badly want to know, even though you so badly don’t want to find anything inappropriate. Sadly to my detriment….I found too many things that I wish I hadn’t seen.

May 24, 2010I have to say, I don’t check my OH’s texts and as he can’t use the computer there are no emails for him!! He doesn’t get time to go anywhere and if he was getting up to mischief I’d be able to read him like a book!!

May 24, 2010I try really hard not to look. My OH has a Blackberry which I can’t work, and his own laptop which I never go on. I suppose it’s best just to trust…

May 24, 2010only 14%,13% and 10& – no, that’s just the ones that admitted to it. I always read my husbands blackberry. I used to fire up his laptop when he wasn’t around too. To be honest it all got a bit boring and what I did find that I didn’t like (man stuff that I guess a large percentage of men do) I wish I hadn’t, so I stopped looking but sometimes I will have a good hunt around around his pockets! (When I left my first husband I was surprised he wasn’t more upset – turned out he was having an affair himself so now that mistrust has been misplaced onto my second husband – he tends to deal with it but I’m sure it annoys the hell out of him)

May 25, 2010I agree. Seemed quite a low figure to me Lx

May 25, 2010I don’t know Mr’s passwords but do occaisionally pick up his phone to check texts and emails – I do wonder what I’d do if I saw something, but I guess knowing that I might pick up his phone might make him think twice or am I just being naive?

May 25, 2010CJ – I also thought my husband I could read like a book. as for blackberries – find out how to use them! that’s when I stopped checking and i wish i hadn’t – would have prevented a lot of heartache had I constantly checked up on him in the first place!
