Why is it taking me so long to get into the whole thing? Perhaps because I exhausted myself by being too obsessed with Diana’s wedding. I don’t know.
I’m beginning to show a vague interest, which I suppose is a good thing. My daughter is very excited. Can’t wait to see the dress. I’m looking forward to seeing the dress actually – what are the bets? Alexander McQueen? Who else? I’d like it to be Stella McCartney
I had declined an invitation to our street party because I was going to be away. But for various reasons I will now be here. So now I am going to TWO street parties. I can’t imagine what they will be like though. Apparently we are having a table tennis table in our street. Well my road is on a massive great incline, so not sure how thats going to work. I was in Hong Kong when Diana and Charles got married so I haven’t witnessed British patriotism and fervour like this before. Do I need to buy some red and blue icing for cakes? I bet that the sales of Pimms and strawberries will go through the roof.
My daughter was discussing the Royal Family yesterday, mulling over the risk of an attack and who would then rule if the entire family got wiped out in one go – can you imagine what a nightmare the security forces are having this weekend? Then she got on to how much news the royal family seemed to be generating of late and for future bank holidays – would we be given the day off for Harry’s wedding?, for the birth of their first baby? For the Queen’s death? For Charles’s inauguration? For the second baby? For William’s inauguration? Third baby?

April 27, 2011I was fairly bored by the whole thing until a couple of days ago when I watched a programme on the telly about wills and Kate, and suddenly I find myself getting all ready for a great public celebration with what we do best in our country – a lot of pomp and ceremony. I remember watching C & Diana’s wedding and getting all weepy – strange, but at heart I guess I’m a romantic, like most of us.

April 27, 2011We in Germany are so envious at your Royal Family! All the coaches and horses and livrees and the ladies` hats and the cheering crowds! I watched Diana`s (and Charles` of course) wedding, too, and will certainly watch this one (as the Danish, Swedish and Spanish before). But I would NOT buy one of those cups or other souvenirs. What do people DO with them afterwards?
No, I don`t think you`ll get a day off for Harry`s third child, don`t hope too much.

April 27, 2011I had had enough of it and we are going out for the day ooop north and staying away for the weekend but having seen the ‘practise run’ this morning on the news, I’m sort of regreting that we are going to miss it now and wonderng whether to watch it before heading for sanity.
