Following on from my previous post about texting, have you ever sent an entirely inappropriate text to the wrong person or been caught out big time?
Most modern day indiscretions seem to be caught out via the mobile phone. Look at Tiger Woods and Ashley Cole. I know two people whose marriages have broken up because of one succinct but devastating text. One said “I want you back in my bed as soon as possible”. The other “god my bottom hurts after what you did to me last night” Not much room for negotiation with either of those. I saw lots of texts from “the other woman” once I’d realised that my X was having an affair.
Texting can allow you to be reckless which is not always a good thing. I know people who should have a lock put on their phone any time after midnight or after several drinks. The level of regret they can feel the next day is immense. It is so hard to gauge how a person is feeling when you are communicating electronically. Single friends of mine have had to deal with numerous, increasingly sexual texting from somebody they have met whilst giving their children their tea or reading them bedtime stories. This is why online dating can be such a disaster because you simply cannot know someone by trying to read a whole life into single line texts and very often you are both on an entirely different wavelength.
Then there are the texting errors – spelling mistakes that completely change the meaning of the text…”can you pick my shits up on your way home” was a text that amused me (instead of “shirts” if you’re feeling particularly dim this morning).
Got any good ones?

May 20, 2010Embarrassingly, I thought the ‘shits’ reference was about the kids!
I received an extremely fruity and graphic text a little while ago from some woman I had never heard of (the truth, I promise..!) presumably intended for her boyfriend? (Yes, I deduced the intended recipient was male!!)
I showed it to The Children’s Mother….
a. She was gobsmacked at the content
b. Gobsmacked that some of it might be possible!
c. Highly amused (Phew..!)
d Truly amazed that anyone would have the guts to send it in the first place…..
We did consider replying………….

May 20, 2010Yes – I’ve sent a rather flirty text to the wrong person. Luckily, it was a girlfriend who just responded with “Eh??”
The best spelling mistake was my PA sending an invitation to my management team. Headlined “Hold the date: Global Offshite”. She was mortified. We used it as the tagline throughout the event. Not sure she was wrong …

May 20, 2010I sent a text to a friend once who had invited me to dinner. I WANTED to say “I think we’ll just come for a drink and then duck if that’s not too rude” what I ACTUALLY said was “I think we’ll just come for a drink and then fuck if thats not too rude” OOoeergh! I’m not sure if she imagined it would be me and her fucking, or me and my man, in her garden, maybe ???

May 21, 2010I’ve sat on the train next to a chap texting his other woman (I know because he got out a 2nd identical phone to text his wife to say he’d be at the station in 10 minutes) – was astounded at what he was texting… but it did keep my occupied for the journey home!

May 22, 2010didn’t start texting until last year when my then 17 year old son taught me (how do we manage to survive without them to teach us this stuff?) so no mishaps as of yet but there’s plenty of time for me to bungle it royally
however i did a spit take when reading miranda’s comment — got to watch those drinks, ducks and fucks!! 😉

Family Affairs
May 26, 2010I have an email from a friend who wants to remain anonymous:
I found out my husband was having an affair when I checked his phone. He’d deleted all his inbox, but forgotten his sent items. The first text said ‘you owe me a blow job’.
What a nightmare…..
