TOP 10 GIRLY THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK (WRITTEN BY A TEENAGER)

My 15 year old daughter and I had the most amazing time together in New York. She has written a very good report all about the 9/11 ten year anniversary event but I will post about that later as it is hopefully going to be in First News children’s newspaper later this week.

So, apart from the serious stuff, here are her suggestions and advice for some of the fun stuff:-

I loved every minute of the five days we were there and here are my Top 10 list of suggestions (not in any particular order):-

1. VICTORIA’S SECRETS Brilliant for bras and pants and honestly I nearly cried with the beauty of them. That shop is pure heaven for girls.

2. 9/11 MEMORIAL SITE Incredibly moving and surreal experience. Very interesting.

3. SOHO Very cool and friendly environment. Lots of lovely boutiques – especially indie clothing shops. Balthazar is a brilliant restaurant we went to one evening and also make sure you go to Bubbys for yummy pancakes

4. EMPIRE STATE BUILDING Maybe don’t go on a day when New York has a terrorist scare like we did (although it was pretty quiet) and avoid men trying to flatter your mum when using the sister line!! (she loved it) and also avoid having to take a photo with a large bloke in a King Kong suit….but the views are amazing (better than Top of The Rocks at the Rockerfeller centre down the road) so definitely worth it.

5. MAGNOLIA”S BAKERY AMAZING cupcakes. Cool 50’s style bakery with fresh cakes made every day that you can watch them icing. I recommend the vanilla cupcakes. MMMMMMM.

6. NAIL BAR Perfect girly trip. We even got a back massage at the same time and a manicure is really cheap. I got cool neon day glow colours and my mum got black. We looked like we were ready for Halloween:-

7. SHOPPING in general – best places include Urban Outfitters (amazing), Bloomingdales, Forever 21, Juicy Couture, Mac, Brandy Melville, maybe avoid Abercrombie & Fitch as very touristy although I did get asked out by one of the gorgeous men who worked there WOOOOH!!

8. FASHION NIGHT OUT – was really good fun. There was lots going on and we met Grace “ging” Coddington. There was a cool, interesting vibe with lots of live window displays and people to see – Rachel Bilson and Nicki Minaj.

9. WALKING DOWN FIFTH AVENUE – just so much to see.
