I went to stay with my country mouse friend on Saturday with my youngest child. She told me to bring wellies. I don’t own a pair of wellies. Had to make do with Timberlands and marching about in mud up to my waist. We were at university together and manage to see quite a lot of each other, but mostly in London – so I’m not used to country living. It’s always so hard to get away at weekends these days with all the activities the children have on. But finally, we made it and had a wonderfully relaxed time.

Sat by the fire, played games, went on a country walk, had drinks with neighbours – my son asked them where their closest village was…..”um, you’re in it”….he’s not used to being surrounded by a vast expanse of space with nobody around for miles.

They are real foodies too so cooked us delicious food and we just chilled. We played the “Name Game” and then “The After Eight Game”…have you ever played that? Hilarious. You have to put an After Eight chocolate on your forehead and get it into your mouth without using your hands. Very messy.

Back in London now and trying to find a way to emulate their wonderful lifestyle in the city.
