My youngest son is having his 12th birthday party on Friday night. I have stupidly agreed to host it at home because I thought that meant the deal would be that he could stay the night with me and wake up on his actual birthday at my house. Turns out that is not the case. As it is his father’s weekend with the children, he has now said that he is going to pick him up at the end of the party. This has now left me in a lose/lose situation. I will have 20+ children to trash my house, followed by a spectacular mess and then, um, silence.

Bollocks.

In addition, apart from a tempting relocation suggestion, I am desperately trying to think of things to do to entertain them all for two and a half hours. He wants a “gathering” with music, like his big brother and sister have, but it will be a little too light to dance about with gay abandon and anyway, do 11 year olds actually want to dance about with gay abandon? My daughter went to a “silent disco” a few nights ago which sounds like a majorly tempting option. Each person wears headphones and dances about – not always to the same music – which presumably could be very funny to watch and how perfect for my neighbours. The problem with that idea is that I need to hire an expensive DJ to manage the whole project and I don’t have funds/space for that.

So what else are they going to do? I suggested “Pass The Parcel” and “Musical Statues”, but he has suggested “coke pong” – a tame version of his older brothers “beer pong” game – where you play table tennis but drink shots each time you lose. I have countered that idea with “water pong” as I don’t want them all to OD on coke and get hyper, but strangely he doesn’t think much of that idea. Maybe even just “pong”….He wants a Bucking Bronco and a chocolate fountain naturally – but I don’t.

It’s such a tricky age to do a party for. They’re probably going to want to go and play “Spin The Bottle” in a corner somewhere but that won’t work either. I shall be keeping a beady eye on things.

So, thus far, I have 20 + children and nothing to do. This is my ultimate nightmare. It will be the longest two and a half hours ever (have you noticed I can’t find the “half” sign on my keyboard).

HELP!!!! I NEED A PLAN.

Anybody know any good magicians?
