Sometimes my heart aches for my youngest child. He struggles with his weight and although he’s quite good at football he gets teased by the other boys at school. My friend, another mother in the class told me I should speak to the teacher because her son had told her about a particular boy that is giving him a hard time. I saw his teacher yesterday. It was very casual. I asked her if she had two minutes and then mentioned that he was getting teased about his weight but that I didn’t want her to talk to the mother of the boy or do anything too drastic, I just wanted her to be aware of it. She told me that she was already aware of it and that she felt he was being bullied and that it was not acceptable because he was such a lovely sensitive boy and that she would think about how to deal with it and I could feel tears welling up because it upsets me to think that sometimes you just can’t protect them from the big bad world. He just so wants to be liked by everybody and it really upsets him, but he pretends that it doesn’t and then sometimes he cries about it at home and I just wish I could kiss it better and make all his worries go away.
He keeps us all amused with his stories and his style and he is more aware than my other two children of other people’s feelings and of himself. He is very conscious of how he looks and how people relate to him.
He said to me tonight “did you have a lovely day? What did you do? I don’t think I’ve ever been asked that question by my other two children….

June 13, 2008You should WITN’s posts about child bullying. If it were me I wouldnt be worried about the teacher tackling the other kids mother. Unless parents are told they cant take action and I still believe the majority would and will take action as they abhorr this kind of behaviour.

LM was getting bullied at daycare-the other child is 5 LM is 4.
It sucks because you’re right you can’t proctect them 24/7 but you want to.
Working mum
June 13, 2008He sounds special.
Hopefully the school will have an effective bullying policy (they are required to) which the teacher can refer to and then act on. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Hadriana's Treasures
June 13, 2008Have you considered moving him to another school? I have to say that my own peer group (at school) were not the greatest…I’d have loved to have changed schools…it worked out for me in the end though. I ignored the lot of them and made a life long friend in sixth form. What does your son say? He sounds absolutely brillant!
the mother of this lot
June 13, 2008Came round here to be cheered up, not heartbroken. I hope the teacher can sort it out. Try not to worry about it. I know. You might as well try not to breathe.
A Mother's Place is in the Wrong
June 15, 2008Oh Lulu, your dear boy. Just give him lots of love. I once tackled the child concerned when Daughter was being bullied – I asked her how she would like it! The Mum and I were never on the best of terms afterwards, but it was worth it! M xx

June 15, 2008Unfortunately I bullied someone when I was at primary school. The girls mother came over to our house and told my mum everything. I have never seen my mother so angry in my life, she was so furious at me that I never did it again. Especially after having to spend my pocket money on a present for the girl (which is a big deal when you are 8) and having to go over to her house and apologise – worked much more effectively than i think a teacher/headmaster telling me off would have.
