I’ve only just noticed how ageist my Instagram algorithms are and I’m LIVID.  The other night I commented to my daughter that I seemed to be getting a lot of suggested posts on grey hair.  She had a looked and found it hilarious – “OMG there’s even a dog with grey hair! They must think you’re really old.”  Hers stream was full of babies and engagement rings.

Then I started checking out a few of my friends accounts and they definitely have more interesting feeds than me.  Let me say that I have no objection to seeing women with grey hair, I think they look beautiful and natural, but I don’t know why I’ve been targeted as someone who is only interested in that?  I’d like to see some other things.

My friend’s reel page had Barbara Streisand, Simon Le Bon and Yasmin, Tracy Emin, beautiful clothes, a pregnant woman, and THE CUTEST baby with a dog image, some jewellery, a travel destination and quite a few good looking men…..generally an appropriate all round summary of what she’s interested in AND of what I’M interested in:-

Then here is my daughter’s, which is equally ridiculous – she’s interested in more than babies, wedding dresses and engagement rings ( I hope) :-

Then here are a couple of screen shots of mine.  If my mother wasn’t completely useless at all things techy (she won’t even use the burner phone we bought her) I’d think it was her trying to tell me it was finally time to go grey (which she does all the time btw).  As if – although to be fair it was an obsession with quite a lot of us during lockdown:-
