Alesha Dixon is even more beautiful in the flesh than she is on TV – all gorgeous long limbs and beautiful face, with the most bendy, expressive hands I have ever seen. It therefore goes without saying that it is a mistake to stand too close to her, let alone have your photo taken with her, unless you are vaguely in the same league yourself. Which I am not.
Below is an example of what I mean. Not only has she made me look very short, fat and old, but I’m also trying to pretend I’m not holding a greasy cone of fish and chips in my hand – and clasping claw like onto my champagne in the other hand like someone is going to steal it. Next problem is the fact that I am a little bit lacking in colour compared to the lovely Alesha in her Dolce & Gabbana dress and cheery, but ridiculously high, I would definitely fall over, yellow Louboutin’s. BUT the great thing is that we are at a charity event and it is so not about me!! (but just one more thing, my hair does appear to be ginger – as my friend pointed out):-
But still, I mean look, honestly:-
Here is one taken by Ben Broomfield where she looks gorgeous:-
Here she is being interviewed – look at her shoes!!:-

She was also very lovely – took the time to come to the official launch of Children United, a new global charity, in partnership with Save the Children and Microsoft Skype that is aiming to connect children from all over the world in conversations about the global issues that matter most to them. In featuring on a new single to launch Children United called “We Are The Children United” Alesha has massively helped build the profile and awareness of the charity. We watched the video of her singing the song along with many other children around the world and then she stayed with us at The Mayfair Hotel and mingled for the whole evening. Children United will be the world’s first online platform to bring children together across the world and I’m excited to be part of something important that as a blogger I can help promote and support. Children care about other children and they will have an opportunity using this portal, to be heard and ultimately create change. Children United plan to take their collective voice to world leaders to give children the opportunity to change their lives and ultimately their futures.
Children are 27% of the world’s people, but 100% of our future and this is a way of ensuring that they are given a powerful and effective new dimension for the next generation to really use the power of the internet to reach out to each other and expand their world. The UN pledged a number of years ago that by 2015 all children would be at school. Today, there are still 58 million kids who are still not at school or getting the education they deserve.
There is still much to do and the Children United website, which encourages children around the world to “join-up” and be heard, opens for registration today and goes fully live and interactive in September. The site will be moderated by schools around the world to ensure a secure environment for children to talk to each other safely.
Ultimately the children of the world will be a force to reckoned with and become much stronger and louder as one united voice.
