Well that’s it then. No reason for me to watch the World Cup now. No reason whatsoever. Yup. I’m that shallow about football. I only want to watch him. How sad for him. Out for 6 months with a ruptured achilles tendon. Ouch.  Now he will have to have surgery to sew the two ends back together.  It would have been better for him if he’d broken a bone.  They heal more quickly.   That would have been his 4th World Cup.

One of the women I had dinner with on Saturday night is a physiotherapist and had been relaying the story of her day to us when she’d had to deal with a ruptured achilles tendon patient. She said the woman was in agony and had been brought in by a friend. She diagnosed the injury and went off to try and find her a hospital bed. When she came out again there was an ambulance taking the injured woman’s friend away. She thought there had been a mistake. Wrong person. However, whilst she was busy making her calls in the other room, the friend who couldn’t cope with the word “rupture” a moment longer had fainted and crashed her head on to the side of a coffee table. She said it was a nightmare because the poor woman with the original injury had to then stay and wait for somebody else to take her to hospital whilst her friend got carted off in an ambulance with a major wound to the head.

Disastrous.

Poor David.

Poor David? Indeed. But… more importantly… poor us. I’ve got tickets to see him (well, England) in the World Cup. He’s the only one I would’ve recognised. Who will I holler for now? Sniff.

Am I making it mortifyingly obvious that I know nothing about soccer, but am going purely because it’s The World Cup? How exciting x
