Some friends and I went to Bingo Academy for a Birthday Bingo session last week. Bingo Academy is a pop-up located in the vaults under the arches at Waterloo Station and if you haven’t been down there to witness all the splendid graffiti, then I would recommend a visit just to see that.

Bingo Academy is an extremely popular night out and a great way to learn how to play bingo. A lively and (very) loud affair and it was PACKED with lots of young things all up for enjoying themselves. I don’t know how to play bingo, but they talked us through the process with a splendidly camp array of men and instructions, assisted by video screens of how to do what. Prizes included £5, £10, £20, a bottle of vodka or a glitter ball! But beware, if you get over-excited and get it wrong when you call out Bingo, you get to be labelled a loser!
We got to try out a number of different styles of bingo, including how they play it in the USA and had a very lively compère for the evening. we were amusingly hosted by a woman in a gold lamé dress high up on a platform who moved from civilised calling out of numbers “legs eleven” and “two fat ladies” to “two used tampons” and “one fat lady and one with a big head and a prolapsed uterus”….some of them began to get really revolting – don’t even ask me what a “Wolfdog” is, it caused gasps of horror from the audience and of course there was much merriment every time the number “69” was called.
On until the 2nd June go with a crowd, have a go, it’s really fun.
