Earlier this week my teenage son received an invitation from “Britain’s Got Talent” to attend an audition this coming Sunday. I was SO excited. Not really sure why. Obviously it’s not meant to be about me. I’m not supposed to one of those competitive mother’s who force their children to turn into a circus act.
He can sing and play the piano. So ever since the letter arrived I’ve been discussing what song he should sing, where we find a portable keyboard to borrow and take with us, how long we might be queueing, what he should wear, what I should wear, how I should present myself as a manager, how to get there and other such important details.
Disappointingly my son isn’t playing the game. He’s just not into the idea at all.
I tried to inspire some enthusiasm by pointing out that maybe, if he won, he could pay for all of us to go on a really big holiday somewhere hot….
Anyway, I’ve been ignoring the fact that he’s not particularly interested and organising my life around a long queue on Sunday and then this morning he said “mum, if I have to queue, I don’t want to go, I’ve been offered a ticket to Sunderland Vs Fulham and I’d much rather do that”.
MUCH RATHER DO THAT? I can’t bloody believe it. Here I am devoting my entire life to ensuring my children can keep me in old age and now this.
I wonder if he’s too big to force. Or bribe.
I am very disappointed. Why can’t he be into celebrity rubbish like me. When I suggested that maybe we might bump into John and Edward or “Jedward” as they have collectively become known as, he said “their collective name would have been much funnier if they were called Paul and Rick”.

December 4, 2009Hehe love the sense of humour… have to agree with your son I’d rather have boh eyes poked out with a spoon and my hands sawn off with a rusty saw than attend auditions for Britain’s Talent-less.
