My father is in London for the boat show. It has become an annual pilgrimage and my mother has given up coming with him because over the years she has learnt that she really hates him after he has been to the boat show. He always organises various pissed-farty lunches with other blokes who like looking at boats too. When he gets back from the lunch he can hardly stand up and then he wants us all to go to the pub with him in the evening. We have all learnt to avoid him, but generally one of us is nominated to go out with him, not to talk to him obviously, but to attempt to keep him out of trouble. This year it was the turn of my younger brother and he clearly failed in his task. My father literally fell out of the pub at the end of the night and has broken his arm. Brother and father in casualty until 3am this morning.

He is not feeling terribly proud of himself today.

Honestly, Lulu, I do wonder if we are sort-of twins! All the things you are going through are so similar to previous experiences of mine. Anyway, your latest, my Father was an alcoholic (really) and often caused trouble of the same sort!! Don’t give up! M xx
