Did you know that if you are sick in a taxi in London they charge you £80.00 for the privilege?

I had to pay that this weekend for a nameless teenager (thankfully not one of mine) who forgot to ask the taxi to stop on the way back from a party. The driver was actually very sweet and apologetic when he came to the door, explaining that he couldn’t in fact do any more work tonight because he had to go and get his car sorted. How revolting – if I had some stranger throw up in my car I’d be furious and probably charge them even more.

So, in future I am going to arm all teenagers on busy nights out with sick bags. Much cheaper.

It was one of those sorts of weekends. A 21st birthday for a friends’ daughter on Friday night, our strange family “celebration” for my mother’s 50th Wedding Anniversary (very drunken – only way to get through it) and a 50th birthday party for a very old friend of mine on Sunday lunchtime. All very different and lovely in their own ways.

Saturday night was a good fun family night, with a slightly weepy mother remembering her wedding day. So we tried to cheer her up. In manner of silly people. In a little shrine to my father, who we all miss hugely and who would have loved our evening, we found those rabbit ears I was wearing in a photo only last week and turned them in to a moustache as a token gesture – we all look like something out of an Asterix cartoon book:-

Such a spirited and funny way to express love/deal with grief as a family. Bravo!
