My friend’s son thinks he is having a mid-life crisis. “Why do you think that?’ she asked, “you’re only 8, I think it is unlikely”. “Well, apparently if you are having a mid-life crisis you dye your hair and wear clothes that are too small for you”. I would say that pretty much sums it up – if only we had had that insight when we were young -all sorts of pain and humiliation could have been avoided.
A major news item today was about how “stay at home mothers” are not going to get the full state pension and I was thinking “bollocks to that, far more importantly “stay at home mothers” are not going to get a decent Christmas party”. Tonight, in a pathetic attempt to recapture my youth, I had my one and only exclusive Christmas party and that was with my book group friends. Hardly ambulances at dawn, but fun anyway.
I now am the proud owner of a 15 year old. It’s his birthday tomorrow. Bloody hell, this time 15 years ago I was in Australia on an oxytocin drip, 3 weeks overdue, 3 stone overweight and very, very hot. It was 41 degrees, which is not a good look when you’re 43 weeks pregnant.
