Well, after all the emotion due to the recent death of my father I now have to start looking “forward” to Christmas. I am noticing all the Christmas music and decorations and shopping and am not nearly ready or prepared to throw myself in to it all yet. Next weekend I will try and find the decorations, buy a tree, start thinking about presents….
In the meantime, I have had to start talking to my ex husband about who is having the children and when. This is always a nightmare. I have learnt to let go a little over the last few years and try to find a way to compromise. This year, we will have our large family meal, with all the children on Christmas Eve because it is their father’s turn to have them on Christmas Day.
In addition, presents become an issue when you are in a divided family. Up until last year we shared the bigger presents but now he has remarried, things will be different again. I will buy separate presents for the kids. BUT. I have just heard what THEY are buying the children for Christmas.
A BLOODY PUPPY.
How can I top that?? It’s tempting to rush about trying to find a rare python or a monkey or maybe a baby elephant….but I am going to sit tight and wait six months and presume that, if it’s anything like my friends with dogs that the children get a little bored with the thought of walking it and picking up poo and it becomes the sole responsibility of the female of the house to take it for walks. Twice a day. Pick up the poo. Clean off the mud.
Instead, I am going to start retraining one of our cats to do clever things. He’s already pretty good. The kids love him.
Here he is hoping to catch a bird, carefully disguised in a tree:-
Here he is pretending to be a seashell:-
Here he is just standing about:-
and for his latest trick…..standing about on a box:-
OK. Yes, I know. Cheap shots.
They’re going to prefer the puppy.

Bored now
December 7, 2010Don’t worry you have the coolest cat I know …. and you’re right the kids will get bored of poo duty xx

December 7, 2010You know, I really think they’re a bit old for a puppy. Especially when they have such a talented cat already. Plus a friend who’s just got one says that when she took it to visit a friend, it had vomited, pooed and weed everywhere within minutes. I know it’s bad karma but just think how much the new wifey is going to love that xx

December 7, 2010The puppy will be staying at Dads I assume so really since they spend most of the time with you I wonder who the puppy is really for?????? Make sure it is well trained and strained before you have any puppy sleepovers!!

December 7, 2010I second DD – my first thought was, brilliant the new wife will have loads of fun with that. Your cat is cool, mine is similar, especially with the meerkat impersonation, but she meows waaay to much (so much so I’m thinking of changing my PhD research to see if I could install a mute button to her). I’ve been after a dog for a while, but the bf won’t have it and I agree, I do not want to get out of bed on Sunday morning with a hangover when it’s -20C outside just to take the dog for a pee.

December 7, 2010Oh btw, best of luck to your son on the Oxford interview 🙂

December 7, 2010That cat is a genius. How on earth could they prefer a puppy to him?

December 7, 2010Does he have a branch up his bottom for balance in the tree? And I bet all boys would curl up like that if they could ;0) Buying a puppy for christmas is a cheap shot, they’ll be fed up with it by boxing day and annoyed that it’s playing with all the cardboard boxes not them (actually they are all far too old for that now but how annoying was it when the tots did that?!). Fill your christmas with love not cheap shots, the play back is infinite :0)

December 7, 2010ha, I meant pay back not play back! although play back of love could be very nice too xx

December 7, 2010A puppy? Are they kidding? Did they even ask for one? Having just obtained a slightly older puppy, all I can say is you’ll be laughing out loud in about three weeks. They are hard work, you can’t leave them for long stints, and they are slaves to routine. I love mine, but boy does she suck the life out of me.
