As you can imagine, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming half way across London to meet the supremely gorgeous top British model, David Gandy who is an ambassador for Achievement for All, an education charity that transforms the lives of the one in five children currently underachieving at school. One in five!! That is huge. 20% of our children are underachieving. 20%
He is a passionate believer in social mobility and a fair education system and was therefore keen to get involved with the organisation to help promote the work it does in schools in order to break the cycle of underachievement for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. He told us that he was bullied at school and that therefore he is keen to use his profile to help transform lives of disadvantaged children. Today, he said “one in five children are desperately underachieving at school and falling way behind their classmates. For them the future is bleak. Educational inequality starts early, and grows, and we know the effects can last a lifetime in terms of job prospects, health and overall contribution to society. Achievement for All is a movement focused on educational change; building a world in which all children are seen as having potential, and where every child is enabled to be the best that they can be regardless of background, challenge or need”.
Achievement for All offers support programmes to schools and settings to help them improve outcomes in the lowest achieving 20 per cent, delivered direct to the schools via a team of highly trained specialist coaches. David is currently fronting their campaign to help raise the vital funds needed to support the charity’s work, and is appearing in a new fundraising video which you can see here www.afaeducation.org
He is genuinely committed to supporting the charity and has been doing some amazing things for them. He’s a really interesting man, with some deep passions – which we discussed to the best of my ability. He does a lot of work with Battersea Dog’s Home and kept talking about his dog Lucy…which threw me a bit. So we discussed dogs (which I know nothing about), vintage cars (ditto) and education (also ditto)…but it didn’t really matter (to me anyway) and I was delighted to be able to suggest that he calls the documentary he wants to make at Battersea Dog’s home a “Dogumentary” (which has no doubt been thought of before). I think that was pretty much the level of my contribution to the evening. But oh well – I got a photo and I can pretend that we are in a hotel room because it looks rather more intimate than it actually was!

Already this morning, whilst writing this post I have just spent over 10 minutes looking at his Instagram feed. OMG. Honestly, it’s all a bit too much for 8.15 am and I think I’m going to have to go and lie down again…but not before I’ve shared – see what I mean? Do not under any circumstances start searching for the photos he did with Dolce & Gabbana – you will have to take the rest of the day off….
