“Depressing but fun” is an oxymoron I suspect. But sums up quite well my Saturday night out. I went out with naughty friend last night. Bloody hell, does she ever live life. She’s divorced, four kids, successful business and amazingly for her no man at the moment. We had dinner at The Ivy which was lovely – last time I was there I saw Pierce Brosnan, this time the only recognisable face was that very large man who has a beard and wears a fez and a monacle that does the racing tips…name escapes me, thankfully.
My friend is a member of a club, so we went dancing. I love dancing. But there is something rather sad about being a 40 something woman dancing with her friend, in amongst a dance floor filled with women mostly 20 years younger and mostly on their hen nights.
I need to not do evenings like that again either. So far then, amassing my things not to do list, now that I am newly single:-
Don’t go to local pub
Don’t go out dancing with girlfriend
Don’t have another boyfriend ever again…
This is not looking good.
I’ve been for a walk already this morning and watched my son play football and had my daughter on the phone in floods of tears because her father is making her go bowling and she doesn’t want to go. It’s difficult – I told her that I couldn’t get involved because it was his weekend and he’s only making her go because he wants to spend time with her.
Out on my walk this morning I phoned my girlfriend to tell her there was a fire at the end of her road and loads of firemen rushing about (another fire started by a the sun and a mirror…obviously quite common then). She texted back “r there any good looking ones? Won’t be long just changing into low cut PJ’s”.

February 25, 2008Why can’t you go to the pubs? I am with you on the not going dancing when surrounded by 20-odd year olds though. The only good thing about doing that is we know all the words since everything’s being re-mixed these days!

February 25, 2008The Ivy? Crikey, that’s where the in-crowd goes, doesn’t it? (I can’t even get in with the out-crowd).

February 25, 2008Oh right. Just caught up on your last few blogs. How awful. When I was 25, I ran to the aid of a “friend” (using the world loosely now). She was being dragged off down the street by some drunken idiot that she seemed to fancy. It had obiously gone way too far at this point. When he bent her over a car and looked like he was going to hit her, I said (quite calmly) “Don’t you dare”, at which point he turned his attention to me in the form of a head butt and caught me square in the nose! Broken nose, hospital followed by police station. Court appearance 4 months’ later, where my “friend” had to be forced to be a witness, and the idiot got an ABH criminal record. I now stay away from fights, although I don’t go out much any more. (Isn’t that a song?)

February 25, 2008Oh no, poor you!
Yes, Ivy, even after all these years still a sort after restuarant – you normally have to book a month in advance, but for some reason we managed to find something last minute.
