epic

A little gaggle of children and I have just seen the preview of “Epic” The Movie in 3D from the creators of Ice Age and loved it. It’s out in cinemas in the UK on May 22nd, in time for half term.

Gorgeous cinematography in the forest full of exquisite detail. A battle between green and brown, growth and decay, life and death. The opening ceremony was gorgeous with a Beyonce-esque Queen carried in a stunning carriage by kingfishers with all manner of wildlife turning into real creatures along the way.

There were some laugh out loud moments and a few tears shed (by me obviously, not the children). some enormous battles – all very Avatar-esque, only green instead of blue. Battles between the goody Leafmen and their team and the underworld. At one point I noticed my six year old goddaughter leapt at lightening speed onto the lap of her sister – so it’s obviously a little scary here and there. On reflection though she said the scary bits were OK because everything turned out well in the end.

The overall message was that “There are many leaves on the tree – lots of individuals but we’re all connected” – no one is alone and we all stand together.

Of course there was the love interest moment that didn’t end in quite the same way as it does in Avatar, but nevertheless it was also about being a parent and a child and loss and how to believe and it really is worth watching.

The viewing was in Leicester Square and we were given a lovely breakfast, face painting, balloons:-

We were there with a handful of celebrity parents – the most famous of them all being Jordon, with her new rather gorgeous and incredibly protective and attentive husband and her son, Harvey. She looked relaxed and happy we all agreed….
