Already, I am struggling with what to wear. I have no summer clothes as yet and so it was lucky I was in a conference centre for three days in Dubai wearing my black suit and had no time to get any limbs out. Relief for all concerned I’d say.

Also, I am too busy to be paying attention to fashion. WHAT are we supposed to be wearing this summer? April and May are always the hardest months of the year in fashion. As usual there are gorgeous things everywhere in the shops to tempt you, but frankly the thought of trying on this season’s bright neon colours and the bold stripes that seem to be on every hanger is not good. Those colours against milky white skin? Nope. Need a quick trip into the sunlight before that’s going to work.

My friend has told me to go and buy Marks and Spencer’s jeggings – lots of them in different colours – they’re only £22.50 each and she says they look great with a white t-shirt – especially their bright royal blue ones. They also come in white, which as every woman over 30 knows, is a complete terror to contemplate – encasing one’s bottom in skin tight white fabric is never an easy decision to make. However these do seem to fit rather well and are incredibly comfortable – plus of course there is always that reliable trick of wearing a longish tunic or t shirt to cover the worst bits. They really do look good with wedges or ballet pumps and come in short, medium or long lengths.

AND now I can show you one of the presents my friend was given for her birthday – not sure how much of joke it was because if you’re wearing white trousers, you might find that you need one:-

SMOOTH GROOVE?? It’s a sort of miniature “box” like men have to wear playing cricket to avoid the “camel toe” effect. “Every stylists secret?” REALLY? None of us had ever heard of it before…..

Think I’m just going to avoid white trousers OR at least wear them with very long tops.
