Kids home. Son now on antibiotics so hopefully on the mend. I find it helps hugely to lose the thermometer somewhere in the house detritus. That way no idea that his temperature is 104 and no longer feel the need to panic.

My blog is two years old! I can’t quite believe it. How can I have written so much drivel for so long and STILL not want to stop?

When I started it, I highlighted three main reasons for embarking on a new project:-

1. To use the internet as a place to experiment with a new identity in order to find my own voice again

2. To try and understand the allure of cyberspace

3. To remain one step ahead of my children in the full knowledge that there would be no chance of that happening.

I know now that there were other reasons, not so blatantly obvious to me at the time for starting a blog. What I really needed was a distraction and a focus during the time my children disappeared to stay with their father. The alternative at the time was more likely to be climbing into bed with a large bottle of gin and 200 fags and refusing to get out or staying out too late and talking to inappropriate people in the same club of disaffection.

I was sad and angry and obviously felt the need to vent my spleen on more than one occasion. I wanted to record my thoughts on the sad state of my life after the demise of my marriage in the hope that it would help me and others in a similar situation. It also became my form of therapy. My outlet. My thing. It was never my intention to provide a totally one sided look at the breakdown of my marriage – I hope it doesn’t come across like that.

Over time though, my little bloglet has evolved into so much more than that. I love being part of a group of cyber friends who all seem to support each other. I can pop over to any number of blogs now and be amazed, be amused, be saddened, just be. I can look at pictures, read poems or stories and adventures. I can send cyber hugs and kisses or advice. I can even attempt to send some rain to those, especially in Tanzania by doing a weird little rain dance in my suburban kitchen and hoping that my children don’t notice.

I used to love the anticipation of wondering who, if anyone had dropped in to say ‘hi’ and leave a note – now I am much more likely to get proper measured support and advice over my latest drama or dilemma from people who have begun to know me. This has been brilliant. I have even discovered extraordinary links between families through my African blogmates and it now feels as if a whole new world has opened up to me.

Now all I need to do is find out where to do lessons in beginners Astro travel and I’ll be happy.

Congratulations on your second blogoversary – I enjoy reading your posts very much. We have stuff in common. We have stuff not in common too … the clothes always come back here dirty and crumpled. Even the clothes they haven’t worn are crumpled.

    Have a great weekend. x

Future vision obviously involves the book deal, although everyone will think it’s fiction!
I really have e-mailed you twice. Not quite sure what’s going on. Will try again.

    Happy Easter!
Just to say that the Proust quote is so true. It is so true. It’s been 3 1/2 years for me and I feel that I’ve come through the other side and am stronger and maybe a teeny bit wiser for it.
Congrats on the 2 years of blogging, long may it last.

At the worst of times during my divorce and subsequent court hearings due to my ex’s non payment of maintenance ,i often wished i was living a life where nothing ever happened.
Of course what i meant was a life of calm and happiness, but my wise boyf the sculptor bloke pointed out to me, that that’s how you know you are dead..(or even worse middle aged ) when nothing ever happens.
At times my life has been a bit like yours, in that things have happened that made my friends and family gape and express disbelief… i just told my children ‘its all material for your novel/stand up routine/therapist’
What happens to us is our life .
We have to suck it up and make the best of it. A sense of humour helps. My solicitor told me i had the best example of gallows humour he had ever encountered…you’ve got to laugh..havent you? Well i did when my ex was chanting and meditating in the court waiting room….
i reckon you are doing alright
    good luck

Happy Easter and Blogo-versery! Builder Bloke’s epithets are entirely accurate. He is wise.

Try a sun-dance today – to celebrate the fact that Spring has finally Sprung!!(wv is ‘misho’ sounds like the sort of thing one would say to Dear Friend after quaffing pints of bad white wine)
