This is rubbish. There was a time, not long ago when my son was going to be an ambassador for a particular airline and send regular updates from lots of far flung exotic locations about all things interesting to us back home. THANK GOD we didn’t get our act together to sort that out. They’d have been SO pissed off with him for his irregular and frankly disappointing updates. I had also hoped to be able to provide informative detailed research on all his different locations for the travel section of my blog (which I will be mentioning much now that I am supposed to be a travel blogger!). But. No. Chance.
Owing to lack of contact since he’s arrived in Thailand, I sent him a brief email asking for his new mobile number and for an update of what he’s been up to. I don’t think that is too much to ask is it? My friend’s son, who is with him said she is receiving regular LONG and detailed emails about what he’s doing. So much so that when he said he’d been “eating lots of fruit and reading lots of books” she accused him of being an imposter and asked him where her real son had gone.
I know this is my son. Here was his email this morning (minus requested new mobile number):-
Hi! Yes all good here. Been in Chang Mai this whole time which has been awesome! Done lots of cool things and going to Pai tomorrow for trekking. Will text you in a bit.
Love you! X
How rubbish an update is that? Just one step up from the “Good” that my 11 year old answers to all questions ranging from “how was your day?” to “what do you think about the hadron particle collider?”
I have been relying on my friends more for inside information – the family they stayed with in Sydney gave me regular updates including this morning:-
“Missing not having them here. They were fantastic. Only complaint I had was that my recycle bin for bottles was overflowing……it gets emptied every fortnight so we had to do the sneak down the street at night adding bottles to neighbors bins!”
Missing our chats too. Will have to keep up with FaceTime! Still need to perfect the lighting!!
Will try and think of other top ten things in Sydney!
She’s been a star and given me a list of top restaurants in Sydney which I’ve included in my travel section in the hope that a few useful posts will stand me in good stead for the Travel blog prize! Going to have to work a bit harder I suspect. Let me know if any of you out there want to send me any Top 10 lists from where you live (please!).
Still, I am beginning to be of the opinion that it is really quite relaxing not to know (or more like want to know) what they are up to. More space in my brain. I will try not to think about him too much and assume that no news is good news and then when I get the long tome I will be pleasantly surprised…..

Yes, I’m definitely becoming a “no news..” type of mother too.
BTW – I didn’t know you were a travel blog!
Me neither!! x
