I have just had a few drinks with my journalist friend who’s off to LA tomorrow to interview MAJOR Hollywood stars. She really does have the best job in the world and what am I doing whilst she is off “working?” Looking after her youngest daughter for a week. She is in the middle of an acrimonious divorce and the father doesn’t seem to want to help out with the kids whilst she’s away. Oh well, I am delighted to have her and to be able to help. One more is not a problem at all.
Anyway, just got back to find teenage son has just got home from a party. Highly inappropriately, he has just been showing me how effective his laser pen is from his bedroom. He can beam a light miles away, into somebody’s living room and light the whole area with an eerie green glow. Which causes people to come to the window or door. Which caused us to to fall about laughing and hide…I am meant to be the responsible adult in the house. It really is a worry.
Talking of being a responsible adult, my daughter was horrified earlier. Having arrived home from school safely (her first attempt at cycling and I had been quite concerned) she was appalled to find that the large piece of cheddar in the fridge had a bite taken out of it. “Mum, have you like seen this like cheese? There are actually like teeth marks in it. That is like so disgusting. It must have been like one of my brothers – you so like have to speak to them, that is so not OK to do that….it’s like really gross”.
“Oh. Sorry.” I said. “That was me”.
7 year old came out of school today saying “I’ve been thinking about a new invention. You know dad is bald? Well, you know the hair balls you make when you clean the hairbrush? I’m going to collect all that hair together and when I’ve made a really big ball I”m going to stick it on dad’s head when he’s asleep and when he wakes up he’ll be really pleased because he’s got hair again and guess what I’m going to call it? Hair-bald”.
