What a long day yesterday. Drove my eldest son miles and miles to the university of his choice to spend a day looking around their facilities and campus with a view to hopefully getting an offer.
I was really looking forward to the journey down there actually. His undivided attention for about three hours each way. We could discuss all his travel plans, where he was going to be staying, what his thoughts were on Syria, child poverty, Thierry Henry et al…
Not sure why I even bother to fantasise about this sort of stuff. We all know the score with teenage boys.
8am – Get in car and set off
8.10am – He’s taken off his shoes and put his feet on the dashboard
8.15am – pulling chewing gum in and out of his mouth that I can see in my peripheral vision
8.20am – Gets iPod out – starts singing very loudly before iPod even attached to head and tapping his legs.
8.30am – Starts fiddling with back of seat – “WOW! Look how far it goes back! Cool. Mum, do you mind if I go to sleep for a minute, I didn’t get to bed until like after 2am last night?”
8.32am – Puts earphones in ears. Goes to sleep.
10.30am – Wakes up as I’m parking the car. “Brilliant! Wow. We’re here. That was quick”.
We have a great day. Mostly apart. The parents are talked to separately whilst he goes off to talk to older students about the price of beer. We then meet up with a mate of his who is already there. Go to the pub and catch up on news and I leave him there and drive back on my own.
Oh well. At least I was invited.
This is all in the middle of a ridiculously complicated half term that I am having to juggle. Still teaching my classes which meant I had to get cover for yesterday and couldn’t think about going anywhere with the other two specifically because of this appointment at university he had yesterday. My daughter stayed at home cutting up little bits of paper and sprinkling them around my kitchen for art it seems and my youngest child has been enjoying a basketball course and was therefore happy and otherwise engaged with some friends which was good.
Got him back last night. Aaah. Look at the kitten in his hood:-

Awwwww kitty.
Did your kitties ever achieve a truce?
Getting there – sort of. Grumpy old one just about puts up with him leaping about until he annoys her too much then she lashes out – but he’s fast enough to get out the way so I’m not worried any more Lx
