What a brilliant wedding it was. Such a happy day. The church service was lovely and quite emotional all round. The bride looked absolutely gorgeous wearing a beautiful dress and my brother just grinned from ear to ear all the way through. The reception was at her lovely family home – we started off with scones and champagne on the lawn and then later we moved to a marquee for a sit down Thai food meal and dancing afterwards. The weather was perfect, the speeches were brilliant – my brother the best man did a fantastic powerpoint presentation of embarrassing life moments and my brother the groom (who had written his speech that morning and then re-written about half an hour before was brilliant too. The father AND mother of the bride spoke, as did my father and an aging aunt. All the guests merged well together (some did a little too much merging), the music was great and everybody danced all night long and the general consensus from lots of people was that “it was the best wedding ever”.
I had a brilliant time. My reading went well, although I had to try and keep a straight face and ignore the giggling children in front of me in the church. I was reading 1 Corinthians 13 : 1 – 13 which is a lovely reading about love – about love being patient and kind and how it does not envy and is not proud. In the last paragraph I had to read “When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me” and I could see the kids nudging each other and looking pretty puzzled….
My children looked fantastic. My daughter made a beautiful bridesmaid and two sons made very handsome ushers. Things did unravel slightly as the evening wore on. Well, it wouldn’t have been a proper wedding without a few wedding stories to tell about drunk guests BUT it went so SPECTACULARLY wrong that I can’t even talk about it, with several people behaving ridiculously badly….and to be honest I’m quite traumatised because it involved extremely bad behaviour from my new sister-in-law’s-sister.
I’m not home yet, so haven’t been able to go through my photos yet.
