My brain is about to blow up. Not only because it is working hard to rehydrate itself after last night’s festivities, but because I am doing a “what improvements should I make to my life this year?” thing.

There are many things to improve. I don’t know where to start. If I stop drinking for a few days (note already changed from the month I was aiming for yesterday) it will be even worse because my thoughts will be clearer. What a horrible thought.

I want to go and build houses and schools in Africa and not get Malaria. I want to go to the Victoria Falls with my mother and brother’s and our father’s ashes. I want to improve my teaching skills and learn more about anatomy. I want to be a better, more hands on parent, one that my children don’t roll their eyes at when I get the answer wrong. I want to cook splendid Cordon Bleu food effortlessly that my children like eating and don’t gag at. I want to get fitter and more healthy. I want to go to art galleries and understand why I’m there and what I am looking at. I want to go to plays and not fall asleep. I want to be more intelligent and erudite and have interesting conversations about politics and economics and the price of gold. I want to travel LOADS more and not think about how much it is all going to cost and how I will manage to do it and I don’t want to have anymore conversations about the price of petrol and congestions charges. I want to go to the ballet and understand the story rather than be fascinated by the noise their shoes make. I want to go to more films and make reasoned choices based on prior knowledge instead of not have a clue. I want to eat in lovely restaurants all the time and be invited to interesting parties. I want to learn how to fly a plane and I want to learn a language. Maybe two. I want to understand emerging markets. I want to buy a flat overlooking water. Most of all I want to write more. Blog more. Read more. Learn things. I want to learn how not to miss my father too much. I want to spend more time with my friends and take them and Builder Bloke along for the ride.

Builder Bloke delighted me yesterday by starting a conversation that didn’t involve beer, sex or roof tiles – “Milan” he said and I thought “YIPPEE, finally – are we going to Milan or just going to discuss it as a concept?” and he continued …..”my new Bulgarian plasterer is amazing. Really fast”. Oh.

I want. I want.

Not good.

So what will we all really achieve I wonder? We’ll see. Hard to predict. 2010 was a major rollercoaster of a year for me -my friend died and my father died.

I shall keep it simple therefore and I’m going to do what I said I was going to do last year – hope more, worry less, work more, drink less, laugh more, frown less, travel more, spend less and love my children. Oh yes and save the planet too.

Happy 2011 to you all.

Happy New Year to you! I have not had the energy to even think about 2011 yet, and when/if I do, it’s probably going to be 2012 already. giving it a try, to be Resolution-less for the first time in many years… hope all those dreams come true in 2011!

Please, please, please take me along – I can help with the art galleries stuff! Until you feel like you want to squash me like a fly for talking incessantly, of course.
    Respect!
