Brilliant. Good for her. I’m very happy for her, but at the same time I have to question what her motivation is for getting married again at all. Love? Kids? Security? Companionship? All the things we all want from a partnership but that you can have these days without tying the knot.
Her timing couldn’t be better. Apparently Brad is marrying his scarlet woman this weekend so she’s managed to upstage their lavish ceremony in France for a minute.
I can’t make my mind up about remarriage. Perhaps that is because I’m not in the right place, but it may also be to do with the fact that as I get older, I can’t really see the point. I read an article recently about why men tend to remarry much more quickly – life is apparently easier for them with a wife around, whereas women find that remarrying again can quite often make things harder.
Jennifer has always objected to being considered a woman who is “unlucky in love” saying “it doesn’t measure the level of my happiness or success in my life and my achievements or any of that” so I’m just curious as to what her motivation is. She’s had to deal with a lot of cultural pressure and expectation.
But then again perhaps I’m turning, worryingly, into a cynical old divorcee and that can’t be good either. I’m going to a wedding later in the year of a friend who is marrying for the second time and can’t wait – it will be a very happy affair – I’ve also got a single friend who has just announced that she’s thinking about marrying her new partner and again that’s brilliant – if I’m really honest, I’m sort of jealous and sort of not.
I guess it’s all just down to personal choice. I’d love to know what you think of second marriages and THE WHOLE POINT OF LIFE IN GENERAL.
(I’m having a bad sort out the shed sort of day and feeling grumpy).

August 15, 2012You are definitely not a cynical divorcee and neither am I but I do understand how you feel. I have been married twice and believed in it completely on both occasions. I also know that I divorced for the right reasons and don’t regret any of those four moments in my life (apart from perhaps when I add up how much it all cost). I have realised that I am a different person now than I was then and can’t help feeling that marriage is for Other People. I have worked so hard to find myself,to have my own home and my old name back, to be financially independent and to create a safe and happy home for my children I just can’t imagine a set of circumstances that would tear me out of this (mostly happy) place.
It doesn’t mean that I no longer believe in love and marriage or commitment to a partner; I think I just want to stay being me for a bit, I have spent too much of my life being someone elses something (child, wife, parent).
And I think that Jennifer Aniston still has a problem with Angelina Jolie. Actions based on jealousy or revenge are rarely successful so let’s see how that one works out.

August 15, 2012Im married twice. I was already in the committed second relationship when I realised that marrage would make me happier. I needed his commitment. To be honest if you are prepared to live with a man long term then I think marriage is a good thing, it seals it for the woman, no man ‘it’s not a marriage’ excuses. I think the real WTF is actually getting into the committed ‘hey let me do all your sodding ironing and pick up wet towels’ relationship at all. Once you’ve taken that step you might as well all bells and whistles have a blow out wedding party. I’m marrying a women in marriage 3. It’s got to be a lot more even in terms of who carries the crap.

August 15, 2012I am SO thinking about living with a woman next – just got to get over a few hurdles first. Like the fact that I am not aware of any lesbian tendencies at this stage. But I’m working hard on finding some. Lx
