I love John Lewis. “Never knowingly undersold”. It works very well as a partnership – all the employees are partners, which means they all have a vested interest in keeping their customers happy and as a result they get to share in the profits and you can completely tell, because all the staff are incredibly helpful and lovely.
Three weeks ago I bought a table and chairs for our garden. Yesterday when I went into John Lewis I noticed that they were in their half price sale.
This sort of thing upsets me.
So I rang them when I got home, just to tell them that I was feeling a little aggrieved and to ask what should I do about it. I was still within my rights to take the whole lot back, but told them I didn’t want to do that, as I was happy with the furniture, I just didn’t want to have to pay twice as much.
The woman I spoke to said she’d talk to her manager and call me back. She called me 10 minutes later and offered to refund me the total difference which amounts to quite a lot of money.
I was very impressed.
So I just thought I’d say a public “thank you” as it’s this sort of approach to their customers that will get them through the credit crunch, because it makes us want to come back for more (and FYI, they don’t know I have a blog).

August 20, 2009Oh yes, I love John Lewis too. I live a far distance from the nearest one, and it's great that they delivery anything at all for free. But I also love going around the shop too, preferably on my own so I can look at everything.
Muddling Along Mummy
August 20, 2009I love John Lewis – order online and it gets delivered for free in next to no time
Even better, we ordered our new buggy from them at the weekend and I mentioned that I'd seen (but forgotten most of the details) of a deal on it in another store (but after the previous buggy problems wanted to order from JLs). Less than 48 hours later I have a call saying they'll match the deal and to refund my card !!! 5 minutes of form filling and £60 better off – simple and so easy !

August 20, 2009That is very good of them. Most places would have made you bring it back and buy it again. I love JL, too. I love the way they always use your name (gleaned from your debit card) when they give you your purchases. I even had one assistant follow me round the shop carrying my basket once when I wanted things from different departments! (I hadn't asked for that, he insisted!)
When daughter was a baby, JL was a trip out. They give you free organic baby food if you buy your lunch there AND someone will carry your tray and sort out a high chair for you. Just fab!

August 20, 2009Yay for JL!
Bush Mummy
August 24, 2009Oh hear hear.. what would we do without them. I ordered new school uniform at 5pm one evening on line. It was delivered at 10am the next morning.
How's that for service.
God bless them.
