I LOVE all the pictures I took in Africa. I know all you lovely people out there have seen pictures like these before, but when you are sitting RIGHT next to a pride of lions and there is no boundary between you and them and you’re finding it hard to remember to breathe and your father keeps asking if you want to swap places (no…it wasn’t particularly chivalrous behaviour, he was closer to the lions than I was) then taking them yourself makes all the difference.

There is something completely magical about seeing animals just being. In the wild. Where they are meant to be. Just thrilling beyond words.

even though I've experienced it so many times, there really is nothing like it. It sounds as if your trip has worked some kind of magic – for me, its always about perspective. we can get so wrapped in the tiny details of our lives, and forget "where we are in the food chain" as norman used to say. Perspective is so important. Sounds like you got plenty.

Lovely post. And I really don't know how I would feel in the same situation, given that I am really struggling with my ex's behaviour right now and it is not even remotely linked to another woman – not least an ex wife of someone I am dating, which suddenly seems too hideous for words. I know 'this too will pass'. And you're so right. It helps to remember to just breathe. So thanks for the reminder. I will make a conscious effort to do that today.

Did YOU take these photos? Wow! And yes, that is what I felt too, in the Valley, when we got out of the car and suddenly there was this herd of buffalo – no fence or anything between us. It makes you feel ALIVE, doesn`t it!! Great post.

Fabulous pictures! Unbelievable to see them in the wild. I felt very much the intruder in their world.

PS Who produced the poo, then?

Amazing pics, and your feelings about your African trip, too. I agree totally about the thrill of seeing the wild animals right there in the wild. I experience it still every day if we pass an elephant or kudu or whatever it is on the way to work!

Thanks for all your comments – and yes the shocking pink mini skirt was unbelievable….and for you WM who is the only one to want to know the answer – the white "bush meringue" poos belong to the hyena! As a result of all the calcium they extract from the bones. Lx

What a fabulous post to read on a Monday morning, when it is so easy to forget to breathe… thank you. Every time I read one of your posts I am reminded of how strong the human spirit is! x
