That is sad news. After 25 years of marriage.
“The separation is entirely amicable and they fully intend to maintain their close friendship,” it said. “Their priority is to commit to the future joint parenting of their daughter.”
French, 52, wrote in her autobiography that their marriage was “buffeted by a tornado” when Lenny was discovered to be having an affair. Well, I certainly sympathise with that concept.
What would you do in the circumstances? Do you think it depends on the person you are with and how they make you feel about it? Or on your own feelings about it? Or on the precise situation and gravity of the offense. Or on all of the above? For example, if you were somebody who had made it very clear from the beginning of the relationship that you would never tolerate an affair because you couldn’t ever imagine your partner with another person and believe that you could get over it and that was the way you felt in your heart regardless of what your head was trying to tell you – do you think there would be any point in trying to override that view?
They did well to keep it together for another 10 years. It’s not easy, getting over something like that and French said her 51-year-old husband made “grave errors of judgement” which led to a decision to “pull tighter, hold each other, unite, hold hands and walk through the storm together.”
Good for them. Good for her. I was never able to unite and hold hands under those circumstances. I just felt an enormous sense of betrayal that never went away. I knew I would never trusted him again.

April 8, 2010I don’t think it’s pathetic at all, I think it’s human. I, too, would be unable to get over a betrayal like that I don’t think. People should learn to be kinder to each other and ‘fess up, before doing any betraying, it’s just so vicious. xx

April 8, 2010You’re not pathetic at all. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t stay after an affair. People know the difference between right and wrong. I know things change, but what’s the point of saying those vows if you don’t intend to keep them (or even think about them before entering into an affair). He should have talked to you first about how he felt, and given you both the chance to sort it before the worst could happen. Enjoy the rest of your holiday xxx
