My soul is exhausted. I have spent all day doing one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do – and that is before I’ve had to stand up in church (twice) and read it out to the congregation.

I’ve been formulating a tribute to my Father. His Eulogy. Although I hate that word.

Just hard, hard, hard.

I keep finding inspiration in the new picture I’ve got stuck on my wall from my lovely friend. It simply says in very large writing:-

LIVE

LAUGH

LOVE

Which as she pointed out was very much the way he chose to live his life and certainly a most important life message to remember.

Of course in reality, his would have to be a little bit longer and not necessarily in that order. It would have to additionally say:

LIVE

DRINK

LAUGH

DRINK A BIT MORE

LAUGH LOUDER

LOVE

DRINK EVEN MORE

FALL OVER

PROBABLY BREAK SOMETHING

GET UP

LAUGH ABOUT IT

START ALL OVER AGAIN

    Oh petal, what a hard day it must have been for you and family. I’m glad it’s over, if you know what I mean. I’m sure you’ll all do a great job keeping his memory alive. He sounds like a great bloke!

    I can never pronounce eulogy … I think if you follow your expansion of Laugh Live Love it will be brilliant – funerals should be the celebration of someone’s life, not their death. Obviously you don’t want a ‘Best Man’s Speech’ but I think the congregation should be able to laugh a bit – eases the tension.

    Really touching post. I love the image of your dad you portray. If my old man and yours had a chance to meet in the great beyond, I’m sure they’d have a ball. Wishing you and your family the best at this difficult time.
