I am now on the outskirts of Glasgow staying with some lovely friends of mine. We did go to the Tracey Emin restrospective yesterday – I will write about that when I’m back in London later this week. Suffice to say that I recommend a visit to anyone who is feeling a little low…you’ll feel so much better about your little lot in life (and your mental state) afterwards.
I CAN’T GET HOLD OF MY CHILDREN and it is now really beginning to bother me. They haven’t called me once yet and I’m really disappointed about that. I did finally get an itinerary of where they were going to be staying, but with no telephone numbers or times. I may have to try and leave a message at their next hotel, but I don’t want to worry them…I just want to talk to them. I sort of don’t want to have to stalk them, primarily because if I know precisely when they are going to be in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon I will worry.
I have consistently sent him texts saying can you ask them to call me when you get to the next hotel please and his reply has either been “you can call them now on your mobile” or “you texted at 2.45am suggest you call between 6pm and 11pm your time and you should be able to get hold of them”. I really had thought that he would, once they were all showered and ready for bed suggest that they call me from time to time. I think it’s really crap, but I was probably wrong to assume it would be anything else. The latest news was a text last night from my son saying “dad has lost his phone, so if you want to call us, call me”. Which of course I have. But his phone is off, or he’s got no credit and the same applies to my daughter’s phone. Of course their phones are off -it’s too expensive for them to make and recieve calls there when they are on pay as you go…I’m sure he knows that.
I always get them to call him when we’re away. I guess no news is good news and all that and I guess that maybe it’s a bloke thing rather than a control thing….trying not to let it get to me. I can’t believe that my youngest child hasn’t asked to talk to me.
Still. Not long to go. They will be back on Saturday, so less than a week.

still very irresponsible of him not to give you contact details for them along the trip i think.

August 11, 2008Take comfort in “no news is good news”. They’ll be having a great time and looking forward to seeing you on Saturday. Not phoning doesn’t mean they don’t miss you. And it defo doesn’t mean they don’t love you. Hugs. Flick xx

August 11, 2008that’s so frustrating when they don’t call, even frustrating still when the exes don’t have them call you when they know you’ll want to talk to your children EVERYDAY. i guess i was a bit lucky because i sent my oldest w her phone when they visited their dad (only in another state) and calling each other is free (mobile to mobile). but there has been a summer where they weren’t calling me back for days at a time. my girls ended up coming back 4 wks early this time. thx to their dad.
your kids will be home soon and that’s a comforting thought 🙂

August 11, 2008I understand how you feel. If I can’t get hold of my kids (say, when they’re with The Outlaws in the Auvergne) I start to fret. Pathetic for such a superman as myself but nonetheless true. I just like to know where they are and that they are safe.
Of course, if not prompted, they wouldn’t phone me for weeks on end but that’s okay as long as I can phone them.

August 11, 2008This might make you feel better. My 12 year old was at a sleep away baseball camp last week in New York. That’s a long way from Chicago and he hasn’t spent much time away from home, on his own. I sent him two or three texts, and he finally replied on his way to the airport after the camp had finished. It hadn’t even occured to him to look at his phone, never mind contact home. I just took it that he was having a good time and wasn’t homesick!

August 11, 2008ah bum man! when our second born went to nairobi for a swimming gala (on the bus with all the others but just after those hideously violent elections in kenya) i didn’t think it was too OTT to ask for a security car (and if poss a helicopter to hover over them) to follow the bus at all times. safari craig did though. but ouf! hard not having the contact…not long to go now darlin’! make one of those worms that you tear off a section for each day..until their return…! xx janelle

August 12, 2008here’s a thing to be thankful for f.a.,your kids are having a good time with their dad.that’s all you can hope for.when i went through my decade of hell and my youngest 3would go with their dad(the oldest 2 refused)they would call me crying.they wanted to come home. i dreaded the phone call. there wasnt anything i could do.He demanded his time with them so he could lower the support payments. it’s a f#*^ed up law in the state of california. i’m so sorry you have to go through this. BUT, they’ll be home soon!!
