Strange day today. Clearly everybody  is very unnerved by the latest economic crisis. I suspect that this will herald the end of the line for Investment banks, but don’t like to sound too pessimistic. At least there’s a new and hopeful beginning in Zimbabwe.

I’ve had two children at home off sick. I had to leave them home alone for two hours whilst I went to teach my class. It wasn’t an easy class to teach. I’ve got three new people in it and it’s very difficult managing lots of different levels of experience. Embarrassingly, several people commented on my sparkly eyes. Sadly not because I looked vibrant and healthy but because having found my under-eye concealer in my daughter’s make-up bag, I rubbed copious amounts of it in, to cover up my eye bags only to find that she had somehow managed to get loads of glitter mixed in. I couldn’t get it off. It got stuck in all my eye wrinkles. I looked like I was pretending to be a singer from Abba.

I’ve had to stop my running training. I really am injured and am clearly far too old to be running any distance and my bloody achilles tendon hasn’t stopped hurting yet. My running partner was far less distraught about my pulling out than I’d hoped and has already found somebody else to take my place (who wasn’t even in training AND she’s older than me and she’s really excited!). I am fluctuating between feeling really, really depressed and miserable about not being able to participate to feeling really, really completely ecstatic at not having to go through the whole thing. I’m not really cut out for this exercise lark. Last time I ran I tied my trainers up far too tight in an effort to avoid my heel hurting and virtually cut off all the circulation in my legs. I actually couldn’t feel my feet, so I was running like a complete idiot, not looking at all professional.

My 8 year old came out of school and announced that he was thinking about joining the “Student Cancel”. “It’s all about helping out with stuff people want, like fun things to play with in the playground, but mostly I want to do it because you get to have cakes with the mayor. I have to write a speech for tomorrow”. “That’s great” I told him, “we just need to do a little bit of work on your pronunciation of “Council”. His sister has written him a long and complicated speech that he can’t read. I dread to think how it’s going to go, particularly after I checked his homework tonight. It consisted of a list of sentences in which he had to replace just ONE word with a more appropriate one:

“Most people have four fingers and one thumb on each foot”

He changed it to:

“Most people have four fingers and one thumb on each feet”.

I’m fairly confident he’ll win a landslide victory tomorrow.

Tell your Ex to stick his nose into other people’s business as it appears that he likes a good argument. Or you could send him my way.

I love your 8 yo. May I have him?

I’m not sure if this is an urban myth but my friend tells this story and insists it happened to a friend of hers. She went to the gynae and umm, put a flannel in her daughters old pencil case to ahem, wipe ‘down there’ when she got there. Which she duly did and the gynae (a man) kept saying to her “you really must be careful what you put down there” And only later to her horror did she realise there was loads of glitter in the daughters pencil case. Heh heh.

“Most people have four fingers and one thumb on each foot”

Erm, don’t most people have five toes? I think your son did very well, I am struggling to do that task myself, as you would have to change the whole sentence for it to make sense… (unless that’s the point!)

Yes, I’ve heard that story a lot of times before, think must be an urban myth….all about the Dr saying “oh, I see you’ve made a special effort today”
