It’s ridiculously quiet in my house because I’m missing one child and the dynamics always change hugely as a result. Even if two noisy ones are left. My teenage son has already finished for the summer and is earning some money with his cousin by working in a nursery (vegetable rather than animal)…he is exhausted. “I’ve been pruning all day and now I’ve got blisters”. I couldn’t help but laugh. He’s never even looked at a plant, let alone pruned it. I dread to think what they look like now, I asked him what sort of plant he had been pruning – “I don’t know, something beginning with P”. It’s a worry.
My daughter is feeling much better now which is a relief and is busily planning her summer social diary once school finishes later this week.
My 7 year old did sex education at school today. “It was gross, we learned all about vaginas and penises and how babies come out. Did you know they actually CUT it out of your stomach and then pull it out by it’s feet, then they have to wipe it’s face because it’s filthy and really quickly give it some carbohydrate…oh, no, I mean oxygen”.

June 30, 2008THEY GIVE SEX ED TO SEVEN YEAR OLDS? The world has officially gone mad. Don’t tell me they make emergency contraception available to his class otherwise I am going to jump out of my window.

July 1, 2008at least your 7 year old was listening. My friend’s child was full of the mythical “them” having to cut off your ARM to get the baby out.

July 3, 2008Oh the laughter and the tears! It must feel strange with one of them gone! Your poor daughter is having a hard time, I can tell. And she’s just at the age when it’s all mountains and no molehills. Chin up, it will get better. Margot xx
PS I hate these bloody letter things – I always get them wrong!!!
