OK, so to continue on the brief update……
I really do love my brothers but SOMETIMES the presents they have chosen over the years for my children have been a nightmare. Drum kits, guns, flying things, coloured sand that goes all over the floor, clay – once my brother who is in prosthetics decided that he’d make a fake stomach for my daughter so that she could pretend she had a belly button ring. This involved lying her on the island in the kitchen that we had at the time in our big house and making a plaster of paris mould of her abdomen, followed by a plastic mould – which involved a huge amount of dust and mess – all in amongst me trying to cook a Christmas meal for twelve.
The latest present that same brother bought my teenage son for his birthday has almost made it to number one top nightmare present because we came back from a meal out last night to find my house full of teenagers in full rave mode. I literally couldn’t see my kitchen because the smoke machine was belching out so much atmosphere it was impossible to see anything. The laser light machine he bought him at the same time was beaming flashing lights all over the place and that was the only way I could get through my kitchen to the back door without bumping into everyone. It looked like my house was on fire there was so much smoke. The music was thumping and honestly – it all looked very professional – proper disco.
Not so this morning. What a mess. Bottles and glasses everywhere. Even the token pile of vomit up the wall in the loo.
Look at what I found in the bathroom, along with the shampoo bottles:-
NOT GOOD.
NOTE TO SELF: Remember to read this post back before I agree to anymore gatherings and make sure I hide the bloody smoke machine.

February 23, 2011Pah! That’s nothing. I once came home to find my 14-year-old firebreathing in the back yard. And when my horrible neighbour complained, I pretended I was cool with the whole thing. He (the son, not the horrid neighbour) eventually went on to tread the boards and did leave home. But not till he was in his thirties. If that makes you feel any better. Oh, and I’m SO with you on making him clean up the vomit. xx
