The need for blood never stops.
The NHS are asking for us all to keep giving blood if we can during this time to help save lives. Blood donation is understandably projected to drop because of the coronavirus and they really need our donations if we remain fit and healthy.
Travel to donate blood is considered to be essential travel under the category of medical need so we are allowed to continue to give blood during the lockdown. Our donation of blood is essential to the NHS because seriously ill patients need blood more than ever right now. It is very important that they continue to collect enough blood for hospitals and their donor centres and mobile sessions are open around the country as per usual.
I went to give blood last week and there were extra safety measures in place. Their trained staff checked everyone as we arrived for the session and we had to sanitise our hands and sit apart from everyone else. Safety is their number one priority and they have asked everyone to come alone.
