My teenage daughter is mortified. She had to stand up and recite a poem to her class for a competition yesterday. She learnt it over the weekend when I was away. Even I might have suggested she think again….
She came out of school saying it was SOOO embarrassing. Everybody in her class recited either a Shakespearean sonnet or a love poem of some depth.
She stood up and recited the following poem:-
“Fishy fish munch, munch, munch.
Eats his food with a big crunch!
Fishy, fishy swimming by
He just looked! Maybe saying “HI”
Fishy, fishy swimming around
The mayor of his own little town.
Fishy, fishy Yummy, Yummy
Now…he is in my tummy”.
What’s even worse is that two people from each class were voted by their classmates to go on to the second round, where you have to recite your poem in front of the Headmistress and she was one of the chosen one’s!!
How embarrassing for her.

June 2, 2010She has to recite it in front of the headmaster? No wonder they voted for her – kids can be so cruel!

June 4, 2010I agree, but how tempting would that have been. She walked right into that one! Lx

June 2, 2010That’s hilarious! some life lessons can only be learnt by experience!!! Does she have to do the same poem in round 2, may I take the liberty of suggesting good old Spike Milligan “I must go down to the sea again, the lonely sea and sky, I left me pants and socks there, I wonder if they’re dry!” pitch that again Sonnet 18 ;0)
