I survived.

I’m so lucky in many ways, but bloody hell does Christmas highlight the fuck-ups we single parents have created for our children. It makes me want to go back to being a complete family, just so that I can give the children everything I had as a child and everything that you imagine Christmas should be.

I’m exhausted. I cooked a meal for 10, pretty much single handedly as my two brothers were ill, my sister in law (who was v helpful but had my gorgeous full-on niece to look after), my mother abdicated all Christmas duties quite a few years ago, but I don’t know why she can’t even peel potatoes and my father still has an arm in a sling. He is normally chief washer-upper, so I had to do that as well. It was a great day and I love having all my family around – but I can’t quite get away from wanting to feel happier about my situation. It’s not easy and I’m sure there are a lot of people out there that feel the same.

I’ve got post Christmas blues.

Well you got through it – and good for you!

All good wishes for 2008 – and keep up the ‘cruelty’ – you’re doing a sterling job and raising children to be proud of…

Of course he was joking, but always remember that parents always cop the blame for everything.

It’s just the way it is. I know, believe me. It doesn’t really matter how much you do, how lovely you are to everyone, it’s just the way it is.

    And it sucks.

Christmas is a tough time for women, especially as everyone else thinks the whole thing is so easy. My advice would be to have a drink, sit and watch Eastenders Omnibus, it’ll make you feel better honest!
