I feel really terrible. I had one of those awful mother moments yesterday when my youngest son came back from school to say that he hadn’t been able to join in the Christmas lunch because I hadn’t put enough money on his lunch card.

How bad is that.

We’d looked at the menu a few days before – turkey, pigs in blankets – the works. I can’t believe he wasn’t allowed to have it. I had no idea his money was about to run out or indeed that he wouldn’t be able to pay it back later. They have a fingerprint system at the school so that no cash changes hands, but still, on occasions like that it would be good to think that he could go into “debt” on his card or be lent the £3.00 he needed to pay for the meal until I’d added more.

Seems such a shame and so unnecessary to exclude people for that reason and I’m marginally horrified that they didn’t just ask me to pay it back later.

It’s getting busy now and I’m going to be working even on Christmas eve and between Christmas and New Year so not much time for preparation. Which is a good thing. Because even if I had time for preparation I wouldn’t be doing very much preparing. I think that is one of my major faults in life. I don’t prepare. I am not a preparer. Stupid word if you say it enough times – but important to a degree in life.

Although. I’ve been wondering about “Being Prepared”. “Be Prepared”. For what exactly? Anything? Everything? Catastrophes? Life? I’ve been wondering about preparation and control. If you are the sort of person who likes to prepare for things – packs early, books everything in advance, wraps all the presents, preps all the food, tidies the house, puts up the Christmas decorations – in short, attempts to remain in control at all times in your external life…..if you are that sort of person do you think you are less prepared internally for what life may throw at you? Less able to deal with your thoughts and emotions?

Just wondering.
