BREAKING NEWS…I have made a little bit of progress with my ex husband regarding Christmas and New Year plans. I took all your fantastic advice and decided that I did indeed need to be a little more creative about the problem. I talked to my parents, brothers and children and we have agreed that we are going to do a continental Christmas and have our big meal on Christmas Eve. Then when the kids go on Christmas day, they can have another meal with their father and his family and I will go with my parents to see my brother and his family. I decided too that I would just stop making such a fuss about New Year and go away myself somewhere to ride wolves or whatever you’re supposed to do when you are trying to find yourself and have no friends.

ANYWAY, my ex husband called the other day and said “if you really have a problem with me taking the children away for New Year then we will stay nearby so that you can see them to” and I said “oh, well I was going to say that it’s fine if you want to take them away” and then there was this silence on the phone as we both reeled from the shock of our first little bit of reasoned compromise.

I had to see my 8 year olds new teacher yesterday. Just for the usual parent/teacher consultation. Compared to all the trouble I had last year, it was completely fine. She didn’t suggest family therapy. So I’m happy. He seems to be on track. Phew.

I told him all about it and how pleased I was with him and he said “yeah, but mum did you know that I can’t see the whiteboard AT ALL it’s all blurry and it’s been like that for about three days”. So we do some sight tests at home and it appears that he is almost completely blind. When my teenage son had a go with him he gave up after 30 seconds saying “you are SO lying” .

I was going to rush him to the Doctor’s but my friend told me not to be ridiculous, “it’s not an emergency just go and get his eyes tested. Soon”. Interestingly, when I told him that we weren’t going to go to the Dr during school hours today he threw a complete fit and announced that his sudden eye problem also included WATERY EYES and that it was definitely an emergency.

2 things: firstly fantastic news on the xmas – new year front. I know it’s difficult, but you must remember how lucky you are to have such a big and supportive family around you. You will have a fab time on xmas eve – full of love, warmth, fun and excitment.
second thing. I suggest you see both a doctor and an optician and do it as soon as possible. anon x

Wow – well done on the maturity. Don’t be too hard on yourself for past behaviour tho’ as you have to go through that stage to get to where you are now. It’s all a journey. And great that you have your sibs to support you on the Xmas Eve dinner. It will be a nice celebration.

Dear Lulu, now caught up – and it’s such good news that you have managed to organise Christmas to suit you all – I’m sure you’ll have a great time. I loved the silence on the phone – yes, you’ve managed to work it out. M xx
