Like thousands of other hardy Brits we braved the weather and found ourselves a viewing point along the river to wave at all the boats. Not too difficult where we were because the boats were apparently “mustering” up the river around Putney and picking up the Queen further along the river so unfortunately, we missed her:-

We forced a bunch of disgruntled children to come with us to soak up the atmosphere (and the rain). “This sort of thing only happens once every 350 years or so” I kept saying on deaf ears:-
But wonderful to see all the boats although it got a little bit tedious once we’d seen nearly all 1,000 of them. These perky little Italians cheered us up no end with their “standing to attention” pose – not sure what it meant….:-

Our view towards Putney Bridge – brilliant to see them all – we waved furiously and they “toot-tooted” back – so thank you SO much to my lovely friend’s friend for not minding an influx of guests for the event to stand on her river view balcony:-
