I’m not sure how you find out about your partner’s history. When you meet someone new that you think you might have sex with, at what point do you start asking questions? I assume you will have already established whether they are divorced, married, gay or all three. How many questions do you ask? What sort of questions do you ask? How honest are they going to be? Are you expecting them to tell you? Precisely. So what’s the point. The only way to really tell is to take yourself and your partner off to the clinic to join the public queue of shame whilst trying to avoid bumping into your children or your children’s friends.

According to a recent survey, the over 45’s are responsible for a surge in sexually transmitted diseases among the middle aged. “There is also growing evidence that the internet is being used to identify casual sexual partners by all age groups”. “Growing evidence?” I have not tried internet dating (yet) but everybody else I know who has, say’s that finding a partner to have sex with seems to be the main aim.

There has been a doubling of infections among older people in the past decade with cases of chlamydia increasing by more than 50% between 2002 and 2006 and cases of syphilis by more than 100%. I suspect it will only get worse. Our generation weren’t brought up being told to wear a condom. In addition, amongst my age group, with a higher divorce rate I can only assume that there are more newly separated people having sex with people from a wider spectrum of ages than ever before.

I am never going to have sex again.

Still, at least I don’t have to worry about whether to wax or not anymore.
