We are all getting ready to go on holiday on Friday. My daughter has the worst fake tan I have ever seen. She put it on in the chemist, presumably using the tester. It’s far too dark for her, completely streaky and the palms of her hands are bright orange. We’re going to Spain with my entire family – my mother and father, my brother, sister-in-law and niece, my other brother and his fiance and my three children. I don’t think we’ve all been together for a continuous two weeks for about 25 years. I suspect there might be a reason for that. We’ll see. My father recently said “I am rather alarmed to note from my diary that for the next two weeks all I am doing is absolutely nothing but getting drunk every night”. This is what we do best as a family when we are all together. We have ridiculous evenings full of laughter that tend to go a bit wrong after 18 bottles of wine although it generally doesn’t matter because most of the time none of us can remember any of it.
I talked to my brother yesterday. I told him that because I was going to have to be doing a few runs for my marathon training I was going to try not to get drunk every night. Complete silence. “Up to you” he said. I can see I’m going to get lots of support for my efforts to train and anyway, it will no doubt be far too hot and therefore I might die, so best not to even bother. Phew. Thats that then. Won’t pack even bother to pack my trainers. No point.

July 15, 2008Your family holiday sounds just great – I’m really jealous because we don’t have those sort of holidays any more, now my two are grown up. Just relax and enjoy it. And as you say, it’s your ex’s loss if he doesn’t take the chance to see them. M xx
