I have had a relatively quiet weekend, reflecting mostly, on why some people should die so young and missing my friend and just generally wondering what life is all about…..I’m doing my annual walk for Breast Cancer this weekend and she was meant to be walking with me. Just so, so tragic.
My children were with me this weekend, but you wouldn’t really know it – hardly saw my daughter – in and out only to get another change of clothes it seemed.
Last night we all went to see some friends for a meal which was lovely. Whilst I was getting ready I had a brief warm fuzzy moment about how gorgeous my children can occasionally be because teenage son shouted from the bottom of the stairs that he was off to pick up daughter from the train station. Even taking into consideration the fact that he has just passed his test and would therefore be happy to pick up his worst enemy I thought it was quite sweet of him.
Later that evening my daughter showed me their text correspondence leading up to the above mentioned lift. Not quite what I thought:-
Her: “Hey can u pick me up from station pls I’m really late”
Him: “No”
Her: “Pls”
Him “No”. Walk
Her: “U r the worst brother in the world, everybody else’s brother is really nice to them all the time”
Him: “F*ck u”
Her: “I HATE U. U R SO HORRIBLE. THE WORST BROTHER IN THE WORLD…..
and so on until she clearly wore him down.
Illusion shattered. Again.

May 10, 2010Oh this made me laugh so much. My two talk to each other like that – tho not via text yet and certainly without the swearing. Seems it never changes – the language just gets a little more ripe and the medium of communication choices increases. Nice to know I have all this to look forward to.
And once again – so sorry about your friend.
