STAMP OUT BULLYING WITH FIRST NEWS ON 26TH SEPTEMBER 2014
SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY UNITE TO MAKE A NOISE ABOUT BULLYING
If you get a chance to pass on the word to your children so that they can all ensure that at 11am on 26th September 2014, as many school children across the country as possible will collectively take a stand to help eradicate bullying with the launch of First News’ Stamp Out Bullying campaign. This Guinness World Record attempt will see pupils stand up and stamp their feet for 30 seconds to make a noise about the cause and help to raise awareness that more needs to be done to find a nationwide solution.
The campaign, launched by children’s newspaper First News, is the first of its kind to call together young people from all walks of life to unite against a worryingly common problem. Over 46% of children in the UK have experienced bullying at some stage during their time at school and in excess of 37% have been affected by online bullying. The Stamp Out Bullying campaign aims to highlight that bullying goes far beyond the playground and effects the everyday lives of victims through a whole range of mediums. By uniting to make a noise First News hopes to ensure that the issue is on the government radar and given the attention required to stamp out the problem.
It is clear that children across the nation are passionate to make a stand against bullying, with over 28,000 students already signed up to take part in the campaign. In addition, a recent survey by First News has revealed that over 78% of schoolchildren strongly believe that bullying should be against the law. Out of 1,401 schoolchildren asked, 815 are in favour of a change in the law to make bullying illegal, and the First News Stamp Out Bullying campaign is the first active step to help raise awareness of this view.
“By kicking off the new school year with this campaign we aim to show those that run the country that we mean business, together we can shake the nation!” says First News editor Nicky Cox, MBE.
